Oh, yeah - thanks for reminding me, Johnster...forgot to mention that one of the reasons Chief Bresett visited was that I mentioned to Lynn that one of the Marathon bombers was named Tamerlan...



And Edgar Allen Poe had written a poem in Boston about Tamerlane [1336 -1405 AD], the disabled Mongol conqueror who's dynasty ruled Iran until the early 16th Century, according Funky Wagnalls...



And that the Boston Marathon began with the historic Battle of Marathon in 490 BC when the Greeks defeated the Persian Emperor Darius the Great [no relation to Soda Pop or Pony Boy but who had made a canal from the Nile to the Red Sea]...




And that the Shah of Iran's younger son had apparently committed suicide in Boston in 2011, just before the start of the Arab Spring...




But I didn't tell her that the son, Ali Reza, was possibly despondent over the suicide of his younger sister who suffered from depression and reportedly was made more ill by the anti-depressants she was given...




Or that he had been in Mr. Danforth's French class the period after mine at Mt. Greylock RHS in 1981, but wasn't allowed to go to our school earlier because his family wasn't supposed to be in the country while the hostage crisis was still going on...




Or Operation Ajax...




Or that the daughter who took her own life may have said she couldn't believe her father had done the things people were saying he had done...which were allegedly done by the CIA trained and created SAVAK...

      If you are unable to stop you vehicle you are going to fast. Bikes, motorcycles share the road. Do you maintain the same speed when two vehicles are approaching from opposite directions and two people are walking on the shoulder?       I drive 40,000+ miles a year just for work. I have seen many, many commercial trucks doing very stupid and dangerous things.
      Ex: pulling back into the travel lane and forcing the car they were passing off the road or into the breakdown lane.
      Ex: Exceeding the reduced speed limit of 45 mph on the interstate in a snow storm causing white out conditions when they pass cars that are observing the reduced speed limit.
      Ex: Swerving from the travel lane into the passing lane in an attempt to strike a crown feeding on roadkill.
      Respect, safety and common sense are a two way street.

      Let me see if I remember your position. You knew he wasn't what he claimed to be but did nothing about it. You claim you couldn't because "people" didn't believe you.
      I on the other hand have publicly stated how I "knew" Bob Carlson. Through a professional organization which met once a month for several years. I never attended the church he was affiliated with. I never served on any boards nor received any money from any group or employer of his.
      When he took the dive off the bridge I asked that people withhold judgement until the facts were known. Once those facts became know I have advocated that those that seemingly knew (2 Bangor officers, 1 PCSO Deputy and 1 "councilor") should have been held accountable.

      I find nothing that says "events must be related to the site". If that is the case there should be no weddings at any state site as weddings are not "events" that are "related to the site" and we all know that weddings and birthday celebrations are held at various state parks and historic sites across the state.

      and yes, it does says that alcohol is prohibited but does NOT say it is a violation of state law, "Intoxicating beverages are not permitted." http://www.maine.gov/doc/parks...
      So is your beef with the caterer serving bottled beer when they shouldn't have or that the Fort Knox site is managed by the FOFK because truly, it's difficult to tell from your various posts.

      The sound stage is paid for by Alex Grey and WFC series. They have paid for the stage each year it has been there. No city money was or has been used for the tents, fencing, lighting, stage, etc...
      If not for the revenue stream from Hollywood Casino the new arena would not have been built in the first place.
      The old Bangor Civic Center and Auditorium was supported by city money. I don't recall you complaining about that why?
      Fact of the matter is many city services and functions could be privatized....motor pool, ambulance service, etc...The city and your tax dollars supports far more than essential city services.

      But your missing one very important point....
      If it weren't for the WFC series or the new Arena there would be no additional money in the local economy at all. Therefore there would be nothing to "pull out" as you say.
      You can say whatever you want but I believe the WFC series and new Arena will mean additional money in the local economy and that is good for both the businesses that take it in and the employees that work for them.

      Well let me see if I can clarify my post some for you.
      Company X normally takes in $5,000.00 on a given Saturday. During a concert weekend that amount doubles to $10,000.00.
      That "extra" money may be used to "up staff" Company X to handle the increased customer volume. That is additional money in those employees that were requested to work on a day they would not normally.
      That "extra" money may be used to purchase additional provisions, items, etc...to replenish the extra items that were sold, used, etc... Those provisions, items, etc...may be purchased locally, regionally or nationally.
      That "extra" money may be used for future expansion of the business as demand increases for the items the sell, provide, etc...
      See what I'm saying?

      2) Hollywood Casino is paying for the majority of the project through a dedicated revenue stream which the City Council placed in a separate account.
      3) The downtown TIF could also be used if the Hollywood Casino revenue falls or does not live up to expectations.
      Yes ultimately the city taxpayers are on the hook but the funds are there for repayment of the bonds.

      The protocol for dealing with someone on bath salts or agitated delirium is: reason with them and if that doesn't work employ a Taser and then sedate them using Lorazepam (Ativan).

      The drug induced paranoia causes these folks to lash out and "fight" things that are not there. This puts the general public at risk and also the officers that need to deal with people under the influence of bath salts.
      The accepted protocol is Taser followed by several courses of Lorazepam (Ativan) which could require the response of multiple ambulances to have the necessary amount of
      Lorazepam (Ativan) on hand to maintain the patient in a sedated state.

      Maybe you should go to a gun show here in Maine. I have been to one and purchased a firearm and completed the same paperwork as I would in a brick and mortar store. Just a suggestion to learn if we have a problem here in Maine.
      The problem I have is we don't enforce many if the laws we currently have on the books. So why have them? I had both a CCW and and Firearm ID when I lived in Massachusetts. They have a law that mandates a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 1/2 years if you are caught with a firearm without the proper licenses or permits. But they don't enforce it. So what is the Great and General Court (fancy name for the legislature) thinking about doing? Upping the penalty to a minimum of 2 years in prison. Well if they aren't enforcing the existing why increase the penalty? It's not a "deterrent" if they aren't enforcing what they have. Are they doing it to "feel good"? I have no idea other than it makes no sense.
      I also enjoy and learn from our debate and discussions. I just might show up at that meeting...and out of respect I would not carry open or concealed...not that I do much anyway.

      I believe rather than focusing on law abiding citizens we should shine the light on the person committing the crimes in the first place.

      As you like the speed limit comparison here is a comparison you might understand.
      I own a Toyota Camry with a 4 cylinder engine and standard equipment. If I remove the Camry body leaving just the frame change nothing mechanically and replace the body with a Lexus body has the performance of the car changed one bit? Or is it still a 4 cylinder Toyota with a fancy (cosmetic) upgrade?
      That is exactly the same thing as removing the barrel and receiver assembly from a wooden stock and placing it in a black polymer stock. You have the same barrel and receiver assembly which operates the same way but it looks different.
      What makes the firearm "look" different is cosmetic in nature. It's still a semiautomatic firearm the fires and cycles in the same manner as it did before.

      There was nothing made up about "dark and scary". It has been said on these pages and by both sides. I know two people that find the AR-15 cut outs on the gates to Maine Military Supply "dark and scary". MMS recently had "over 50 black guns in stock" on their road side sign.
      I would love someone to explain how taking a receiver and barrel assembly out of one stock and inserting it into another stock makes the firearm more lethal. No one wants to address it because it is an arbitrary definition.

      As for a link here is one from this year that calls for the ban and/or registration of any and all "assault weapons" based on specific characteristics. The legislation has been introduced in at least two states, Minnesota and Missouri.

      It starts with "well intentioned" and "common sense" proposals to "limit high-capacity magazines" and creating "assault weapon" classifications as shown in the above example.
      The original legislation list 17 specific firearms and is replaced with words like:
      "semi-automatic rifle"
      "capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:"
      "a pistol grip or thumbhole stock;"
      "any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;"
      "folding or telescoping stock"
      "shroud attached to the barrel"
      and similar language is used for pistols and shotguns.
      So when these laws fail to prevent another Newtown they heat will be turned up again and we move from magazines that hold 10 rounds becoming "too many" and we move to 7 rounds like New York just did. Then the balance of the semiautomatic firearms become "assault weapons" and well meaning elected representatives introduced "well intentioned" and "common sense" proposals to "limit high-capacity magazines" which are now anything greater than 7 rounds and adding additional semiautomatic firearms to the "assault weapon" classification.
      And when that doesn't stop another Newtown the water in the pot gets a bit hotter again until nothing is left. Of course that would be fine with many people...especially criminals.

      In a "democracy" everyone would get a vote and that's just not the case. We don't vote on each and every law. We don't even directly elect the President.
      We are a "Constitutional Republic". We elect people that represent us. If you don't like the way they represent us "we" get the chance to elect someone new every two years in the case of the House and every 6 years in the case of the Senate.
      Our Founding Fathers designed a government with three branches they intended to be equal in all respects. Unfortunately there have been times in our history where one branch of government attempted to exert more power or influence (this may be one of those periods) over the other branches.
      We don't elect the Justices of the SCOTUS and that is the way it was designed, is and should be. Otherwise we would extend the same problem we have on Capital Hill where money buys access and influence and I don't think that is what you want.

      I cannot think of one state that does not have law on the books called "reckless conduct with a firearm" or some such statue. Many states also have laws about securing a firearm so a child should not be able to access it and discharge it. If those laws are not enforced you can blame the DA/AG and add them to the list of firearm laws that go unenforced in this country.

      It would depend on which side of the case you are on. If you are on the side that the SCOTUS rules in favor of then no. If you are on the side that the SCOTUS rules against then yes.
      I suppose if you were Ernesto Miranda you were exceedingly happy when the SCOTUS ruled in your favor and established "The Miranda Warning" in 1966. I doubt Arizona was pleased with the decision. Oh, Miranda v. Arizona (1966) was also a 5-4 ruling.

      Spruce a felon cannot legally carry a firearm today, tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. Nothing in this law changes that fact.       Do we remove a right when a person feels depressed?
      Do we remove a right when a person is given a prescription medication? Keep in mind some prescription medication like Bupropion (Wellbutrin) are used to treat depression AND as smoking cessation medication. Some medications are used "off label" by a provider to treat other non FDA approved disease states. One depression medication is also used as sleep aid.
      Do we remove the right when a person voluntarily commits themselves?
      Or do we remove the right when a person expresses suicidal ideations?
